Farm Markets and On-Farm Stands
Fresh and local. That’s what St. Mary’s is about! We’ve got farm markets and on-farm stands offering a bounty of seasonal produce and local foods. At the Amish North St. Mary’s County Farmers’ Market in Charlotte Hall, you’ll find produce and lots more—everything from bread and butter pickles to whoopie pies. Further down the road, stop by the California Farmers Market at BAE for a grower/producer-only market featuring fresh produce and more. In South County, check out the Home Grown Farm Market whose motto could be “If it ain’t home-grown, it ain’t shown”. There, you'll find produce, baked goods and meat from locally raised livestock. We’ve thrown-in our favorite seafood markets where the catch is always fresh.
Fun on the Farm
If your child doesn’t know moo from milk, it’s time for a visit. Wandering through a corn maze is just the beginning. Both Bowles Farm and Forrest Hall Farm are providers of full –service fun with lots of ways to engage the little ones. The alpacas are ready for their close-ups at Moore or Less Farm and Nobella Alpacas, and several farms offer pick-your-own produce so check out our list of what’s in season.
Award-winning wines from local vines! Sample some really fine wine at our wineries. But it’s not only the wines that are full of character! The Port of Leonardtown Winery is all about adaptive reuse—you won’t believe what can be done with an abandoned state highways garage, while Slack Winery shares the premises with an elegant 18th century manor farm turned B&B. Both wineries are on the Patuxent Wine Trail.
