Cecil’s Historic District Annual Holiday Open House

Every year, Cecil's Country Store celebrates the start of the Christmas Holiday Season with a wonderful traditional county event - their Annual Christmas Open House. On the first Saturday in December the businesses at Cecil’s Historic District welcomes all their friends and neighbors to enjoy the festive holiday decorations, including our special traditional window displays. The store is bursting with beautifully decorated Christmas trees, holiday music, and fantastic Christmas gift ideas for everyone on your list.

Across the street at Cecil's Old Mill, Bill Clements and his crew are hard at work on a very special and rare treat. Once a year during our Open House, they fire up the antique sawmill and demonstrate how lumber was produced when the old mill was a working sawmill (weather permitting). You won't want to miss this!

Cecil’s Historic District is home to Cecil’s Old Mill and Cecil’s Country Store, a unique shopping experience. Located at the southern end of Indian Bridge Road just before it reaches Rt. 5 in Great Mills, Cecil’s Historic District is a favorite destination of Southern Maryland residents looking for special gifts, antique furniture, locally produced honey & jellies, and unique handcrafted arts & crafts.

Both locations are steeped in St. Mary’s county history. Cecil’s Country store was not only the original “super” market of its day - selling groceries, produce, meats, dairy, and household essentials - it was also the local post office. Remnants of the original grocery store and post office are still on display at Cecil’s Country Store. The post office is known to be a favorite location for spotting Santa. The store currently features antique furniture, home décor, Route One products and apparel, designer jewelry, paintings, and prints by local artists, as well as some of the most unique gifts ideas to be found anywhere.

Cecil's Mill was originally built as a cotton/textile factory in the 1800's. Later, it was transformed into a grist mill and sawmill. After restoration, Cecil's Old Mill has become a National Landmark in Historic St. Mary's County and is home to some of the finest local arts and crafts around.

During the Open House, there will be personal appearances by local artists and vendors displaying their unique art and products. Bear Creek BBQ will be on site with their delicious pulled pork BBQ and other tasty treats!
