History to High-Tech
Historic sites and museums, nature parks, and places to enjoy seafood are strung along the Patuxent side of St. Mary’s County. More than three centuries of history imbue the landscape and architecture of
Sotterley Plantation. Activities include guided and self-guided tours. Nearby Greenwell State Park has paths along the water for hiking, plus paddle launches, and picnic areas. Further south on Maryland Route 235, the Patuxent River Naval Air Museum & Visitor Center has indoor exhibits and an outdoor “flight line” showcasing U.S. Naval aircraft tested and evaluated at this important naval center. Here you can also find information on other things to see and do in the area.
Dining choices abound around the Naval Air Museum. North along the Patuxent, places to dine waterside include
Stoney's Seafood House at Clarke's Landing, Sandgates Inn, Sea Breeze Restaurant, and Drift Inn Crab House.
