December 13, 2018 - Striped Bass Rockfish season for Maryland
The fishing news is the same as last week, but the snow and wind slowed our efforts to get out into the bay and rivers.
The season for rockfish ends on Saturday the 15th in Maryland waters. The published end date in the official rule book is the 20th, but the regulations changed when the circle hook rule and 19 inch minimum was instituted after the publication was distributed. The new end date is on the DNR website.
The Potomac River regulations allows stripers to be taken until December 31st, and the minimum size is 20 inches. The Virginia season also lasts until the end of the year.
The big sea- run stripers are few and far between, but the domestic fish in the Patuxent and Potomac as well as the mid-bay are plentiful and eager to hit trolled are jigged baits. They do not bite all day, but if you can find them when they decide to eat the action is fabulous.
