Historic St. Mary’s City (HSMC) invites the public to experience Ms. Story’s Living History, a compelling one-woman theatrical performance presented in recognition of Black History Month. The performance will take place on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 6:00 p.m.

Created and performed by historical interpreter Shemika Renee, Ms. Story’s Living History brings to life the stories of women who impacted our nation through their bravery, determination, hopes, and dreams. Told through the perspective of Ms. Story, a quirky bookstore owner, the performance introduces audiences to remarkable women whose contributions are not always widely known, while gradually uncovering the mystery behind Ms. Story herself.

Renee, an actress and historical performer with more than 20 years of experience, is known throughout the DMV region for humanizing history through first-person interpretation. Her performances portray both well-known and lesser-known women, helping audiences connect emotionally with the past and inspiring continued exploration of history.

The two-hour program includes a fifteen-minute intermission and celebrates the stories and contributions of Black Marylanders through engaging historical storytelling. Ticket prices $17-$20.

The performance is presented with support from the Historic St. Mary’s City Foundation, with proceeds benefiting Historic St. Mary’s City’s educational and interpretive programs.
