August 14, 2019 - Great Week of Fishing
Spot were caught from the Point Lookout Pier this weekend.
The fish can be found by trolling around with big spoons or jigs, and then sight casting to the fish. Hooking up with a Redfish in the 25 to 50-pound range on light tackle is one of life's thrilling moments and should be on everyone's bucket list. There have been excellent catches all week on the Reds.
Spanish Mackerel are in the same area as the Big Bull Reds in the mid-Bay and are maybe a food source for the Channel Bass. Trollers using flashy spoons are getting good numbers of these tasty fish. There are Snappers Blues mixed in.
Cobia are still in the lower Bay, but they are on the edge of our fishing fleet range with the best action from Smith Point south to the mouth of the Rappahannock.
Spot, Perch, and Croaker are all biting bloodworms, shrimp, squid, and crab baits in the Potomac and Patuxent. White perch are carpeting the bottom out of the mouth of Herring Creek in the Potomac.
Stripers are hitting trolled or cast lures all up and down the Potomac and Patuxent at dusk and dawn. Trollers in the Potomac from the 301 Bridge down to St. Clements Island are doing well of Stripers and the Catfish are hitting those same lures.
Leroy Grandby caught a bunch of Croaker like this 12 incher in the Patuxent near Town Creek
