Tyler Wentworth fished the Bayshore Monday with bloodworms seeking perch and caught this big striper. Fish was released unharmed.

Yellow perch are having a longer spawning run that usual in this cold spring. Perch like this are still very active at Mason Springs, Wason's Corner, and Allen's Fresh.

The few warm days have shown adventurous fishermen that the fish are as eager for warmth as we are by feeding heartily on offered lures and bait. Yellow perch, catfish, pickerel, and bass have all been caught this week in just about all the regular fishing holes. Mason Springs off the Potomac has been a particularly good location for yellow perch.

Alex is finding big stripers on the bay for catch and release from the shoreline.

Largemouth bass are loving the warm afternoons and are eager to bite.

It seems as if every striped bass along the east coast has come to the bay and its tributaries getting ready to spawn. Our area around Cedar Point continues to have a huge population of big stripers in the 35-to-50-inch fish in the deep and shallows. Catch and release fishermen are finding fish from the shoreline casting big swimming baits. Daiwa SP Minnows, big Yo-Zuris, and Joe Baggs lures are finding eager bites. The Patuxent is closed to Striper catch and release until the first of May. The Potomac River has plenty of huge spawning fish, and the catch and release is open there.

Pickerel are hungry and plentiful at the Lake.

Pickerel like this are hitting all manner of small spinner lures like Mepps.

Good weather and fishing are just around the corner.
