We have suffered through three rainy weekends in a row, but the fishing has been excellent through it all.

We have suffered through three rainy weekends in a row, but the fishing has been excellent through it all.

Mason with rockfish from the Patuxent.

Ron Hale with a puffer fish that are unusually numerous this year.

The big news is that the rockfish are now schooled up and active. The wind, rain and cool is rockfish weather. There were breaking fish in the Patuxent at Point Patience and Myrtle Point Sunday morning. These were hefty fish in the 23-to-25-inch category, hungry, fat and eager to bite. Before the storm passed through, the Potomac was producing stripers in the shallows responding to cast lures, but they were harder to find. Breaking fish were up and down just south of Ragged, mostly undersized. The rocks at Ragged Point had some hefty stripers striking blue-backed Bomber Wind Cheaters. The Tackle Box Crew caught a couple of keepers last Wednesday.

Captain Bernie Shea is finding all manner of bottom fish daily out of Solomons.

Lots of trout for bottom fishermen in the Patuxent River.

The bottom fishing is still producing spot, though mostly medium and small ones now as the big ones have fled to the Atlantic. There are lots of undersized speckled and gray trout, but enough legal sized to make it interesting. There are rockfish, small blues, and whiting in the mix.

Captain Greg caught limits of blues everyday the wind would allow the boats to get out this week.

Big blues are on the Middle Grounds below buoy 72 for trollers.

Trollers searching out big bluefish are doing very well on the middle grounds below buoy 72. The blues are six to eight pounds and love trolled spoons or surgical eel lures.

Whiting are still here!!

Spot are plentiful.

Crabbing is very good. Waterfront crab potters are loading up on big crabs.

Anthony Selby caught catfish near the Benedict bridge, Monday in the cold and wet.

Joshua Petty with a catch of catfish from Cobb Island, Potomac.

The weather forecast for the week is a mixed bag with summer temps returning Tuesday and Wednesday and then a front coming through dropping temperatures into the 50's and 60's for the weekend.

Be good to yourself; go fishing.
