Fabulous Weather, Fabulous Fishing

Spanish mackerel and bluefish have pushed up the bay to Cedar Point and the HI buoy.

Captain Greg loads the boat with mackerel and bluefish all week.

Captain Bernie on the Shea-D- Lady found mackerel and bluefish in the Ship's Channel near the HI buoy.

Spanish mackerel and bluefish have pushed up the bay to Cedar Point and the HI buoy. Trollers found the fish in the Ship's Channel there on Sunday morning. The blues were reported as far north as Sharp's Island. Lower in the bay from Point No Point to the Target Ship the blues and mackerel continue to hit trolled surgical eel lures and small spoons. Spoonbrella rigs by Captain John are very effective. The bluefish are taking cast lures as they break on top.

Excellent trolling in the lower bay near the Target ship.

Cobia and bull reds are cavorting in the lower bay, but they are elusive.

Two at the time, wide open in the Patuxent. Some good sized croaker in the mix, too.

Spot are very plentiful in the Patuxent River. Some keeper hardheads (croaker) are in the Patuxent as well.

Steve with flounder from lower Potomac.

There are flounder in many locations, but catches are inconsistent.

Mallows Bay catfish this week.

Catfish are enjoying the cooler water as our hot summer gave way to an unusually cool August.  The bay temperatures are flirting with the ten-year record cold day-to-day temperatures. The catfish are aggressive and biting bait and jigged lures in Mallows Bay in the Potomac.

Eric with crappie from St. Mary's Lake this week.

The water clarity should improve this week.  The tides have been low and high in natural order as the winds have been calm for a few days. There are still an annoying amount of sea nettles and other jellyfish in the creeks. The white perch don't like that anymore than we do and they will avoid the shallower creeks, staying out in the deep of the clean river water until the jellies clear out.

Bass at St. Mary's Lake, too.

Striped bass were scarce this week. They will be back in force as bait fish school and crabs shed on the next full moon, this Sunday, September 7.

It is a great time to be on the water.
