Fabulous Fishing Continues
Spot are big and heavy in the mouth of the Patuxent and at Ragged Point in the Potomac; this has been an epic spot year.

Epic red fish blitz, mid bay, near the Triangle.
Shore fishermen casting top water lures found slot reds in the mouth of the Patuxent this week. The reds were in shallow water in the mouth of creeks from Fishing Point, Hog Point, Pearson Creek, and Goose Creek. Find the moving tide and target them at dawn and dusk. The red fish and puppy drum are in the creeks in the mouth of the Potomac as far up as Herring Creek. The St. Mary's River has been very good.

Captain Bernie Shea is filling the fish box with spot in the Patuxent every day he's not out chasing blue fish in the bay.

Two at a time with the spreader bar.
White perch are in the rivers for bottom fishermen and lure casters. The creeks are finally starting to clear up and the pesky nettles are diminishing. The perch are now returning to their normal haunts with the water temperatures reduced from excessive levels.

Eric is finding eager bass in local ponds.
The striped bass season in the Potomac reopens on Friday, August 21st. There will be good action for reds, trout, and rockfish with the cooler weather.

Plenty of blues, too.
Bluefish are wild in the bay, breaking daily. Troll, cast, or jig in mid-bay from Point No Point south. Right now, it's wide open; three per day is the bag limit.

The mackerel are hot on Captain Greg's boat.
Spanish mackerel are in the bay mixed with bluefish and some days, the mackerel are awesome. Capt. Greg on Miss Susie charters has them dialed in.

Hunter, Riley, Walker, and Maverick, the famous Tippett boys, caught these and more on Saturday.
Cobia are getting better daily; the live eels fished in a chum line are most popular. Trolling with bigger (18in and up) surgical eel lure, or a big colorful spoon will produce strikes from cobia and bull reds.

Matt Tippet with bull red from Sunday's blitz near Smith pt.
The big news is the bull reds (25 to 50 pounds) are making appearances from the cut channel below Smith Point to Point No Point. These apex predators are traveling in schools of up to 1000 fish and tearing into bait fish on the surface churning the water white. Approach the school, cut your engine, and throw almost any lure for an instant hookup. You need stout equipment, some braid of at least 40-pound test, and a heavy fluorocarbon leader.
Let's go fishing!!!!
