Umbrella rigs are a rockfish favorite.

The rockfish season continues with great catches in all areas. The Potomac and Patuxent are loaded with hungry rockfish both for trollers, jiggers, and lure casters.

Potomac River rockfish were caught all week.

The bay now has schools of breaking rockfish at Point No Point, Cedar Point Hollow, off the old Hotel site and in the Triangle. Fishermen have found the Power Plant bubble to have consistent stripers hitting heavy jigs bounced on the bottom. Clouds of feeding seagulls show the rockfish activity. Electronics are showing mounds of bait fish and rockfish images chasing the movable feast. The only factor limiting the pursuit is the winds and gales. Calm days are dynamite.

Erick found many willing white perch near the Solomon's bridge in the Patuxent. The fish were schooled up in 70 feet of water.

White perch in deep water in lower Patuxent.

White perch catches are excellent in the Patuxent from Point Patience to the Three Legged. The perch are schooled up deep from 30 to 90 feet. The fish are not shy to bite. There were catches by big party boats, kayaks, and most any sized boat in between. Sabiki rigs, double hook bottom rigs, and custom rigs all work. The closer one can get the baited hook to the bottom, the better. Tiny bits of bloodworm is the preferred bait. These tasty fish in the ten-inch range can be caught in huge numbers when located.

Breaking rockfish in lower Patuxent were active all week.

Captain Bernie Shea is getting limits of rockfish and then bottom fishing for perch. His parties are doubly happy!

The rockfish season continues in Maryland waters until December 10th. The Potomac season continues until December 31.

Sam Muffoletto with Patuxent Striper.

Sam and Bryan Muffoletto jigged up stripers in the Patuxent several days this past week.

Pick a calm day and plan a trip out now.  It doesn't get better than this!
