There are black sea bass in the lower Potomac. Some are on the small side and the season does not come in until October 10 with a minimum of 13 inches.

Spot are everywhere. Small ones in the creeks and big ones in the river. Bloodworms are the key. They will be here until Halloween and then will migrate south.

Rockfish are now a consistent catch in the Potomac and Patuxent. Troll on the deeper edges, jig at the Patuxent River bridge pilings, cast around the shoreline with top water or swimming plugs. The stripers like overcast days and early and late sun positions.
Blues are everywhere.
Slot reds in shallows, too.
Big bluefish continue to occupy the ship's channel from about Point No Point south to Virginia. There are still some small cobia mixed with the blues. Smaller bluefish and plenty of them, are in the rivers to the freshwater lines.
54 inch bull red landed on Captain Bernie Shea's charter boat last Sunday in mouth of the Patuxent.

There are occasional bull reds and slot reds being caught, surprising both trollers and casters. Lure casters seeking rockfish have found some good-sized speckled trout.
Nine year old Jaxson Butler caught his first cobia this week on the Middle Grounds. This late migrator was mixed with hefty bluefish.
Eric found a variety of fish at Point Lookout (Cornfield Harbor) Sunday morning.
