Little Tom got one too!

Rockfish thrive in cool water, and they are loving the cold and rain that has dominated our weather. The Potomac and its tributaries have yielded plenty of rockfish in the shallows and around structure. The 301 bridge has very good rockfish numbers. The Patuxent has rockfish active in the open area from Point Patience to Cedar Point. The entire river opens Monday, June 1, and should have great fishing for both trollers and lure casters. Jiggers around the Patuxent bridge pilings did very well this week.

Kyle Collins has caught rockfish casting lures in the shallows in the Potomac near Piney Point and in the St Mary's River.

Spot continue to infiltrate our area. Catches in the Potomac and Patuxent have been reported. The most we have heard of at one outing has been about 15 decent sized spot. There are croaker now too, but most are about 6 inches. Bigger croaker are on the way based on reports farther south in Virginia where solid catches have been made up as far as Reedville.

The cold front that we endured on the Memorial Day Weekend did not seem to stop the bluefish from coming up the bay. Small blues are breaking in the silverside schools around the mouth of Smith Creek. These snappers are in the 8-12 inch size. Some bigger blues up to 30 inches were rumored to have been caught below the Target Ship.

Jeremiah Schaming is catching snakeheads in the upper Potomac.

The tides have begun to act right with good flow up into the creeks over the rainy weekend. The higher water has brought perch into the creeks and a good run of early crabs.

Eric found feeding stripers in the Potomac near St. George Island.

This weekend has a great forecast with sun and mild temperatures. Let's go fishing!!
